Improve your lawn next year now!

For those of you that are interested in having a lush green lawn now is the time to act. Whether you are thinking about redoing the lawn entirely and starting over, or looking to improve on a lawn you already have fall is a big time of year. For those of you that are looking to improve your your existing lawn here are a few steps to really make a difference!

  1. Aerate- Aeration is one of the best things you can do for your lawn. It allows air and water to get into the soil better feeding your lawn. That’s not all though it actually promotes deeper root growth to your grass. this makes its less likely to burn up in the summer sun.
  2. Overseed- Overseeding is a great idea to do on its own or in combination with aeration. Grass is far more likely to grow in well during the warm days and cool nights of fall.
  3. Increase your OM- OM is organic matter. I like to spread at least 3 or 4 treatments a year of product rich in OM. Don’t necessarily think of this as a fertilizer because it isn’t technically feeding your lawn directly. It is however enhancing your soil and making it far more nutrient rich in which case your lawn can feed off of it better. I like to finish off the year with this low cost treatment to keep my soil fresh going into, and coming out of winter.

For those of you that are looking to have more major lawn repair or even starting from scratch, stay tuned we are hoping to be launching a solution for you in the next week or 2. However there are a few things needed to ensure your new lawns survival and success.

  1. Make sure you use quality base material. screened loam or compost mixes are going to work the best.
  2. If the soil isn’t the best don’t be afraid to use an additive. biotic soil amendments can be a life saver for your new lawn!
  3. make sure to follow the aftercare instructions of your installer exactly to ensure the lawn will remain healthy and grow in well.
  4. By far the best value for doing large patches or entirely new lawns is hydroseed. The cost is towards the lower end of the spectrum while maintaining greater rates of success than other methods.
